JINHO BAE

Jinho Bae is a South Korean choreographer, director, and founder of SAL (Subverted Anatomical Landscape), an interdisciplinary arts company founded in 2021.

His work explores the darkness embedded within human experience and the radiance that can emerge through confronting it. Drawing from personal memories, loss, anxiety, anger, and longing, he creates performances that transform intimate experiences into physical landscapes. At the core of his artistic practice is the philosophy of “The Radiance of Liberated Humanity.”

Bae is the creator of MAGI, an original movement methodology that prioritises sensation, impulse, and the body’s autonomous responses over prescribed form. Through MAGI, he investigates the relationship between subconscious experience and physical expression.

He studied Korean Dance at the Korea National University of Arts, trained at The Ailey School in New York through its Scholarship Program (2014-2015), and completed coursework at NYU Steinhardt in 2014. He later earned both his BFA and MFA from the Korea National University of Arts.

His works have been presented at festivals including SIDance, MODAFE, Festival International de Danse SOUM Paris, SAI Dance Festival Tokyo, and X Realm Festival Hong Kong. As a performer, he appeared in Silicone Valley (2019) by Shahar Binyamini and Animal In (2024) by Andrea Costanzo Martini.

Bae received the Critics’ Choice Dance Festival Best Choreographer Award (2022), the Korean Dance Arts Award for Performance (2024), and the Korean Dance Critics Association Best Work Award (2025). In 2025, he became the youngest choreographer selected for ARKO Arts Creation: New Work, a major commissioning program supported by Arts Council Korea (ARKO). In 2026, he was commissioned as the youngest choreographer to create a new work for the National Dance Company of Korea.
